TestBench at Ziehm Imaging: Variant management for the highest demands in medical technology
Ziehm Imaging relies on modern variant management with TestBench for quality assurance. Instead of redundant test plans, a central repository ensures efficient maintenance, automated derivation and fewer errors - for more speed, transparency and quality.
Ziehm Imaging stands for the development, manufacture and global marketing of intraoperative imaging solutions. The company is a recognized innovation leader for mobile C-arms, which are used in orthopaedics and vascular surgery, among others. In medical technology, the highest software quality and seamless verification documentation are essential in order to meet strict regulatory requirements.
Initial situation:
Ziehm Imaging develops several product families of C-arms to meet the diverse requirements of different medical specialties. These share many identical requirements, but also have different hardware and software configurations.
Quality assurance posed a major challenge:
Test cases were derived manually from requirements and managed separately for each product variant in individual test plans.
Changes to requirements led to high maintenance costs, as all affected test plans had to be adapted manually.
The result: high time expenditure, increased susceptibility to errors and more difficult traceability of changes.
The solution: variant management with TestBench
Ziehm Imaging was able to meet these challenges with TestBench’s powerful test design and test management. Instead of separate test plans for each product variant, a joint repository was set up.
This contains:
- Central specification: All test cases are maintained in a central location. Changes to requirements are made directly in the repository. Maintenance remains efficient across all product variants thanks to clearly structured and reusable test steps and test data.
- Automated derivation: specific test plans are generated from the repository for each product variant – precisely tailored to the respective configuration.
Switching to TestBench has made the test processes significantly more efficient:
- Accelerated test case creation: new test cases can be defined more quickly and adapted for different variants.
- Reduced change effort: Adaptations to requirements no longer have to be made manually in all test plans, but are maintained centrally.
- Reduced susceptibility to errors: The structured management and reuse of test cases minimizes the risk of inconsistencies.
- Fewer change requests: Changes can be implemented efficiently, significantly reducing the number of change requests over the course of the project.
Outlook
The result
Thanks to TestBench, Ziehm Imaging has been able to significantly reduce the effort required for test specification and documentation. The testers benefit from leaner administration and can concentrate more on their core tasks.
The next step
Test automation! Again, Ziehm Imaging relies on the same principle – automated test cases are created centrally in a basic version and can be integrated directly during variant derivation. This not only keeps test management efficient, but also future-proof.
