In the first part of this blog series, I wrote about why practice is critical in testing. In the second part, I introduced you to the VirtualShowRoom, a test object with which you can learn or deepen different test methods or test design techniques.

In the third and last part, I will show you what additional benefits you have combined with the VirtualShowRoom and TestBench.

Get the Test Object AND the Tool For Free

First of all, access to the VirtualShowRoom is free for all TestBench users. And also, TestBench is free for you in the Basic Version! So you do not only get a test object developed by our experienced testers and trainers, but also a test (management) tool! I don’t think I need to talk about the advantages of using such a tool at this point…

Everything Is Prepared in a Template

With TestBench, you can start right away and use the VirtualShowRoom-playground to its full extent. You don’t have to think about the best test method for which subsystem of the VirtualShowRoom. You don’t have to create user stories and test cases for the VirtualShowRoom and manually enter them into TestBench. You don’t have to figure out which type of test case (simple, structured, or checklist) is most appropriate for your testing project unless you want to, of course.

We have already prepared everything for you and created what we call a “Structure Template”. You can quickly load this template as a sample project into TestBench. In it, you will find a complete test specification for the VirtualShowRoom, including all the epics and user stories that describe the requirements for the VirtualShowRoom as well as exemplary test cases.

Benefit from Our Testing Experience

This sample product results from the development process of the VirtualShowRoom. After all, what must be done in any case before a new software product is released? Correct, it must be tested properly! At imbus, software testing and quality assurance are what we do best. All imbus employees are ISTQB-Certified Testers on the Foundation level, many of them even on the Advanced level. The Structure Template, therefore, contains a full testing experience! What we have tested has ended up in the sample project.

For you, this is the perfect (data) base to deepen your testing skills: Start playing around and create, for example, more test cases yourself!

To load the sample project, click on the green plus icon on the TestBench home screen. Click the “Load Structure Template” button and select the VirtualShowRoom template.

Get to Know TestBench Under Guidance

The sample project also helps you to get to know TestBench better. Whenever you evaluate a new tool, you want to put it through its paces – as fast as possible. That works best when there is useful data that you can play with and try out all the features.

I will give you a short outline about a few features that you can try out instantly in the interaction of TestBench, the VirtualShowRoom, and the Structure Template.

  • Test Suites and Test Session: In TestBench, Test Suites are used to group a selection of test cases. Test sessions reflect the actual execution of all test cases during a session and summarize the progress and test results. To try out this feature, a certain number of test cases is necessary. Just use the test cases from the structure template; you don’t have to enter any data to start!

  • Exploratory Testing: In just a few minutes, you can create an Exploratory Testing Session in TestBench. Whether you define the mission and charters for this session, look at the feature alone or with other users, or jump directly into the session is entirely up to you. But the VirtualShowRoom is available as a test object for an Exploratory Test Session. Just start exploring! There are still enough bugs; we haven’t fixed all the anomalies we found. We have even built in extra ones! Quite true to a popular phrase among developers: “We wanted to challenge you!”

  • Data-Driven Testing: In the Structure Template, you will find examples of test cases that have been created for Data-Driven Testing. With these examples, you can easily understand which kind of test cases the test method is suitable for. You can see how Data-Driven Testing works in TestBench and extend the existing test cases or create new ones.

  • All essential elements that you can work with within TestBench are provided in the Structure Template. Just browse the example project of the VirtualShowRoom. That will give you a quick overview of how Epics, User Stories, Test Cases, and Defects are logically linked and how the basic workflows in TestBench are organized.

Have fun playing around with the VirtualShowRoom and TestBench!
